How to buy weed online for delivery in Ontario

    What you need to know:

    • You can buy up to 30 grams at a time
    • You’ll need a residential address (not commercial)
    • You’ll need a valid photo ID (not expired)
    • Payments are card only, no cash

The in-person cannabis retail experience can be fantastic—I love checking out different dispensaries in my area. I still remember the first time I went into a cannabis retail store, I felt like a kid in a candy shop. But sometimes you just want your weed delivered like a pizza.

You browse that digital menu, order online, and cannabis products appear at your door. In the days of old, Canadians had to wait for weed in the mail via Canada Post. Now consumers can get cannabis straight to their door (in most urban areas on the same day).

It’s easy, it’s simple, it’s fast. And now in Ontario, cannabis delivery is a permanent option for independent retailers. So how do you order weed online for delivery?

    Step one: Pick your store

There are lots of ways to order weed for delivery in Ontario. First, you’ll need to pick your provider. In addition to the government-run Ontario Cannabis Store, there are also a number of independent retailers that now deliver.

Larger retail stores with multiple locations have the incentive (and income) to support their own delivery services. This past year Fire & Flower, Canna Cabana, and House of Cannabis all launched multi-location delivery services.

If scrolling through multiple sites to find the perfect product isn’t your jam, check out the Leafly Delivery Portal. It gathers menus from dispensaries in your city so you can see what’s in stock, all in one place.

Places to find cannabis delivery services:

    1. Ontario Cannabis Store
    2. Independent retailers
    3. Cannabis chain stores
    4. Leafly Delivery Portal

    Step two: Fill your basket

We all know that this is the fun part. Will you choose good old-fashioned cannabis flower? Or is it the perfect time to wet your whistle with something new, like gummies or a vape cart? The sky is the limit! (Well, actually 30 grams per order is the real limit.)

Step three: Wait for your weed to be delivered

No matter where you order your products from, once you check out you’ll receive a confirmation and delivery estimate. In certain areas of Ontario, delivery can take anywhere from 1 hour to a full day.

Some carts will allow you to add a tip for the driver and budtenders during checkout. If not, keep some cash handy if you want to show your appreciation. When the bud arrives, you’ll need to have an up-to-date government photo ID to show you are of legal age.

Some stores may also request to see the card you paid with as extra verification (which is good to know if you are sending the weed to another adult as a gift).

    Delivery FAQ’s

How much does weed delivery cost?

Delivery fees can vary between zero and 20 dollars depending on the service and your order size. Some cannabis retail stores also have minimum order requirements for delivery.

How long does weed delivery take?

It can happen the same hour, or day, or the next day, depending on the delivery service you choose. Retailers set their own delivery windows, and hours vary by availability.

How much should I expect to pay in taxes for weed delivery?

Cannabis in Canada is taxed both federally (excise tax) and provincially. I would love to write that weed is taxed at a flat rate but it isn’t that simple. Taxes on cannabis are complicated math equations based on province and product. Don’t worry, we will calculate the taxes for you at checkout.

Do I need my medical marijuana card to get weed delivery?

Medical cannabis in Canada is a different system and is not sold in retail stores (or available through Leafly for delivery). If you are thinking about using cannabis for a medical condition, you should consult a medical professional. There are a number of excellent and reputable cannabis clinics across the country.

How much should I tip cannabis couriers?

Tipping is optional but always appreciated. 20% is always nice if you get great service. Some retailers even allow you to add tips prior to delivery, in case you don’t have hard cash on hand.
